Miles to go post #3

Today, I read a lot of Miles to Go by Miley Cyrus. I love all of the quotes she uses in the book. They all inspire me and influence me to pursue the goals I want to achieve. One quote I found was "Fear is the only obstacle that gets in the way of doing what we love. People are scared to travel, to try new things, to follow their dreams. Fear holds us back from living the lives we were made to live." Miley quoted this when she was talking about filming Hannah Montana: The Movie . Miley was doing a scene with her co-star, Lucus, where they were jumping off a cliff and into a waterfall. She explained how she was so scared, she couldn't do it. Later, she goes on to talk about fear and how it holds so many people back from doing incredible things. This is so true. Fear is what we fear the most. We're too scared of what could happen or what might go wrong that we don't think about the good things that can come out of a situation. One of my favorite songs is Fix You by Coldplay. A lyric in that song is "If you never try, you'll never know". I think about that phrase all the time in my life because I never want to regret something that I should have done. I always want to know what will happen. Even if I get embarrassed or disappointed, at least I wasn't scared of fear and what it can cause me. Fear really does hold us back from the way we live our lives, but some people, the successful people, don't let it.

Miles to go post #1

I have been reading the book Miles to Go. It is a autobiography written by Miley Cyrus. The beginning of the book is kind of slow, yet interesting to read because i can relate to her so much. Throughout the book, Miley put in many meaningful quotes that she lives by. One that stuck out to me was "The dreams that you hold for your future are what you dream about at night. They're always at the back of your mind. They're what your heart desires. They keep you going. Accept reality and have a backup plan, but always follow your dreams no matter what." I found this quote so interesting because I do have hopes and dreams for what I want to do for the rest of my life. Some, like marrying Nick Jonas, very out-there and probably never going to happen, but others, like becoming a fashion designer, I think I can really achieve if I stick to them. This quote is saying if you follow your dreams, they can become reality. Never give up or give into anything less than the best.

outside reading book quarter 4

I’m reading the book Miles to go, an autobiography by Miley Cyrus. She wrote this book to tell about her real life experiences and struggles. I picked this book for many reasons. One reason I chose this book was that I love Miley Cyrus. I think she’s is a very grounded person, and I see all her talent, something many people don’t bother to find in her. She may be judged because she is “made” from Disney, but Miley really does have incredible talent. I also chose this book because I like to read about things that I can relate to. Miley, being my age is a great person to relate to because she is going through the same kinds of things I am…well sort of. Other than the multi-million dollar salary, TV show, movie, concert series, celebrity friends, and glamorous lifestyle, she’s just an average girl like me! Lastly, I will admit I partly picked this book up to find out the truth about Miley and Nick Jonas’ relationship; it was advertised that it would be in here.

Religious Holiday blog #10

Just last week in the Christian Religion, Lent started. I read a website giving information and insight on Lent and what it means. Lent is a 40 day period before Easter when we commemorate the Resurrection of Jesus. We are spiritually disciplining ourselves, just like Jesus did before he died. Within this time, we celebrate Ash Wednesday, when ashes are place on our forhead, reminding us "we are dust and to dust we shall return". For me, Lent is a time to relflect and focus on my faith. This year is the first year that my faith is in my hands and is becoming more important to me. Lent is an important and meaningful time for the Christian religion and many take it very seriously.

Bollywood Blog #9

Recently, Bollywood actors have been taking the U.S. at full force. They are taking home Golden Globes, BAFTAs and even Oscars because of their talent and success. A huge cause of this is the movie Slumdog Millionaire, by Danny Boyle. This movie bmade India's talent in the film making industry apparent to the world, and especially the U.S., and the most famous film making place, Los Angeles. I think it's good for International actors to be making so much money and fame over here, but overall, they should stay in Bollywood. If their film industry is as good as they say it is, they shouldn't be hostile towards us or challenge us to win as many international awards as they did, they should just stay in their Bollywood area. I think their success and trials to make it big are great, but bitterness is unnecessary.

Culture Blog #8

One of the many cultures we have in this world is the arts. It's very broad and vague, but has so many options within it to go from. The music industry has been a success for many people for ages, including U2. They are one of the only bands that have stuck together for over 30 years and are still selling millions of copies of their albums, putting them at the top of the charts. So many people in this world, especially America, depend on music and the inspiration that comes from it. I thing U2 has created a standard and molded the music culture around the world. They really make an impact on every place they go and every album they come out with. Even famous bands like Coldplay and The Killers look up to them, they go by the U2 music style and singing style.

Change Blog #7

One great website or article about change is called changeforthechildren.org. It's an organization started by the Jonas Brothers to get kids to help other kids in need. Whether their dealing with diabetes, hospitalization, diseases, or just need donations, the Jonas Brothers have created this site to donate and make a difference. They wrote on the front page about how they want to inspire and motivate children to face their fears, rather that run away from them. I agree with this, and having a huge name like the Jonas Brothers saying they support these children helps a lot. The most important part of this is that the children of the world right now are the future. Changing our habits and generosity now will change our future for the better.

Hope Blog # 6

Today, I read an article about a chimpanzee who attacked and killed a woman in her Connecticut home. He was about 12 years old, and for some reason pounced on his owner. The police think it was because she got a drastic hair cut, so he didn't know who she was. To get him off the lady, the police had to shoot the chimp until it was dead. He was very talented, and able to do many things like normal people. I chose his article for the hope category because I think it gives other people hope for the future and what it holds for them. It shows that life can end 10 times faster than it starts, and you only get one shot. Hope can bring you through any situation, and keep you looking forward to the future.

Religion blog #5

The article I read today was about Bishop Richard Williamson and his doubts of the Holocaust. He believed the Nazi's didn't use gas chambers, and said this on a radio broadcast. This is a crime in Germany, to publicly doubt the Nazi's ways. He tried to stop the radio from broadcasting it, but he was too late. The Pope said he could no longer do his priest duties after jail until he retracts what he said, which he has yet to do. I think this shows religious leaders and other Christian officials are looked upon very highly in Germany and England. It also shows that this religion takes their rules and laws seriously. They respect each other, but only if you do no wrong.

Gender Blog #4

The article I just read is about Michelle Obama, the first lady. It shows her achievements and occupations. I think having her as a first lady is very important. She's not just the president's wife, but she's also successful herself. She went to Princeton, Harvard, became a lawyer, and then served in her community for many years. She is the prime example of a powerful woman in this day and age. Still, women are put down, not as much as before, but it happens. We aren't taken as seriously as men and sometimes aren't given the appropriate jobs because of our gender. I think gender is a huge factor in our society as to how far up you are, how much money you make, and how well you're treated.

Culture Blog #3

The article I read is about a small, poor country called Senegal, where people were trying to grow more rice for themselves. After a year of high prices for grains, including rice, the farmers felt that they would like to try to grow  a higher percentage of their countries' needs and cash in on those prices. An old government project, from the 1970's. had developed land and irrigation canals surrounding a river. The project was abandoned, but now that farmers have the opportunity to make money, the government tried to restart the program. Farmers were trying to make a profit, but could potentially lose everything if the world price for rice drops as a cause of overproduction. This is a classic example of supply and demand and how a culture deals with it. Many different places around the world deal with local problems in different ways, and this is one example of what could be a successful feat for a country.

Struggle Blog #2

Recently, Jennifer Hudson's mother and nephew were killed. The police were looking for murder suspects, and think Hudson's sister's ex is the killer. It's such a surprise to the neighborhood that he is a suspect. This is because he loved her son, and wasn't the type of person to kill, so they thought. I think this is a huge struggle because the family and their surrounding friends thought they could trust him, but they didn't know his real personality. Also, it would be hard to see who is telling the truth because the police could be wrong, or the ex-husband could be lying. On another note, Jennifer Hudson has to deal with these horrible murders too. She's mourning, trying to find the killer, and dealing with the press all at the same time. These are many huge struggles.

Natural Disaster blog #1

I read an article about an earthquake in Guatemala  and Mexico. It was a 6.5 magnitude earthquake, but didn't hurt anybody. I chose this article because I was in Guatemala when it happened. It only lasted a couple seconds and was very confusing. It was interesting because if this happened in Minnesota or somewhere here, it would be a big deal, but since they're so common in Guatemala, nobody was effected by it or even acted like anything happened. It's amazing to see the different reactions and things that phase people in other cultures or places in the world. I'm very surprised that it didn't effect the city more, considering it's magnitude.
